1) I did not know there was a file for an auger... Do you use a brace or jst fashion a two hand handle for the auger?

2) I have previously heard you comment about your rope a long.. How is is different from a come-a-long beside the rope instead of cable? Did you make it yourself or can you get a rope-a-long instead of a come-a-long?

3) Where did you find your froe?

4) what do you do with the spoke shave?

Auger bit file are hard to find most people don't know what they are. I mostly one of my brace's. I just got a tee handle auger of eBay I haven't had a chance to use it though.

They are put out by Madsens they have their limits since you can only use 1/2" rope. The feature I like is you can use any length rope you want come-alongs will pull more but usually have a short reach. I have 100' of 1/2" poly on both of mine. They recommend using nylon because it is stronger but it is also more expensive and stretches like a bungee cord.

3) Where did you find your froe?

I got mine from Lehmans if I was looking for one now I would go eBay first. You can find a lot of old tools if you are careful you can get some bargains. You just have to watch what you are getting some of the sellers are awful proud of their stuff.

4) what do you do with the spoke shave?

They are something between a plane and a draw knife. I us them a lot for hanging handles.

And I'm sure you also have plenty of chopping and saw/kerf wedges as well... and log dogs, cant hook/peavy and such Smile

Some day you'll have to show us some of the jigs you've devised... you can always tell a lot about a craftsman and the type of work they do what sort of jigs they come up with to make their life easier Wink

In addition to a rope-along & come-along, and of course a block or two, I also want to get/make a portable windlass so I can crank around in circles rather than always having to pull on the ropes or use the smaller diameter power winch. Also need to make/get a good gin pole system to help heft some of the larger timbers around the place. A log arch would probably be useful as well.
